Real Madrid have once again reached out to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as they prepare to part ways with Carlo Ancelotti, a report claims.
Klopp was initially mentioned as a potential candidate for the Madrid job earlier this month when it became clear that Ancelotti would likely be let go, most likely after the end of the La Liga season.
It was then reported that Klopp was interested in returning to management with Madrid, only for his agent to publicly reaffirm his commitment to his current role as Red Bull’s head of global soccer.
According to MARCA, Klopp has received two phone calls from Madrid, who were trying to gauge what the German manager plans for his return to management. Madrid is expected to need a new manager for the Club World Cup, and with their dream candidate, Xabi Alonso, requiring potentially complicated negotiations to break free from his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, hiring a free agent like Klopp makes sense.
However, Klopp’s response remains unclear, and an immediate return to management is not expected. He is likely to stay away from the dugout until at least the summer of 2026.
Madrid will continue talks with Alonso but are also prepared to turn to former boss Santiago Solari, now a director at the Santiago Bernabeu, to lead the team in the Club World Cup before a permanent replacement for Ancelotti is put in place.
Ancelotti is close to signing a contract with the Brazilian national team, which was also seen as a potential role for Klopp before his agent dismissed the speculation.
