Postecoglou Confident Spurs Still Have Big Chance After Draw Against Frankfurt. |
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou shared his frustration after a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. Despite the result, Postecoglou remains confident that Spurs still have a strong chance to advance to the semi-finals.
The match, held on Thursday night, saw Tottenham dominate for long periods. However, it was Frankfurt who took the lead first through a stunning goal by Hugo Ekitike. Spurs responded quickly, with Pedro Porro scoring the equalizer just before halftime.
In the second half, Tottenham kept pushing for a winner. They created several golden opportunities, but luck wasn’t on their side. Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur both hit the woodwork, while Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos made five key saves including a brilliant stop in injury time to deny Micky van de Ven's header.
“We totally dominated the second half,” said Postecoglou in a post-match interview with the club’s media. “On another night, we probably win comfortably. But nothing has come easy for us this season.”
The Australian coach emphasized the importance of staying focused and working hard ahead of the second leg in Frankfurt next week.
“We’ll have to fight for everything,” he said. “Nothing will be handed to us. We’ll need to earn it with our effort.”
Despite the disappointment of not winning at home, Postecoglou remains upbeat about Tottenham’s chances. He believes that if the team plays the same way in the second leg, they have a real shot at progressing.
“I told the players: you can be disappointed with the result, but don’t be disappointed with the performance,” he explained. “If we play like that again next week, we’ve got a big chance to win.”
Postecoglou also mentioned that he hopes luck will be on Spurs’ side in the second leg, after some unfortunate moments in the first.
“We deserve a bit of luck. Hopefully, it comes next week,” he said with a smile.
The tie is still wide open, and Tottenham fans have reasons to stay hopeful. With a solid performance in the first leg and a coach who keeps pushing the team to give their all, the dream of reaching the Europa League semi-finals is still alive.
Now the big question is: will the “fine margins” that went against Spurs in the first leg finally turn in their favor in Frankfurt?
