The Narcotics Directorate of the West Sumatra Police successfully foiled an attempt to distribute 47 kilograms of marijuana. Four suspects, identified as YYP (26), BD (22), MA (20), and AD (20), were arrested at two different locations: Jalan M Yamin, Lubuk Alung, and the Wisma Indah Lestari Complex in Padang City.

The achievement was praised by Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso from the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), who emphasized the importance of synergy in tackling drug distribution.

"Together with the Bareskrim team, we will strengthen and accelerate our efforts to mitigate drug circulation," Brig. Gen. Eko said on Saturday (April 26, 2025).

Separately, West Sumatra Narcotics Directorate Chief, Commissioner Nico A. Setiawan, explained that the operation started from a tip-off from the public. Authorities received information about a black Xenia car suspected of carrying marijuana from Padang to Batusangkar.

Following the lead, police officers tailed and intercepted the vehicle in Lubuk Alung. Upon inspection, they found 5 kilograms of marijuana inside the car. Interrogations of the two suspects revealed that 42 kilograms of marijuana had already been delivered earlier.

Further investigation led the police to a suspect’s house in Padang Sarai, where additional drugs were found.

"We discovered one large green sack containing 23 large marijuana packages hidden under the kitchen stove, and one large white sack containing 19 large packages in the bathroom," Commissioner Nico said.

All four suspects and the seized evidence have been taken into custody for further legal proceedings. This operation highlights once again the crucial role of community cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
