The police have once again proven their commitment to fighting drug trafficking in Indonesia. This time, the Narcotics Investigation Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police successfully uncovered a massive drug network allegedly linked to the infamous international drug lord, Fredy Pratama.

Fredy’s name has long been on law enforcement’s radar, known as one of the most wanted drug kingpins in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

In this latest operation, police arrested four suspects who are believed to be key players in this network. The amount of drugs seized was shocking — almost 9 kilograms of methamphetamine, tens of thousands of ecstasy pills, and powdered ecstasy ready for distribution.

A Well-Coordinated Series of Arrests

The suspects were apprehended in a series of raids over several days.

The first suspect, identified by the initials SP, was arrested on April 17, 2025, on Jalan Ahmad Yani Km 17, Banjarbaru. Police seized 3,002.63 grams of meth during this operation.

A few days later, on April 24, 2025, officers arrested the second suspect, HM, on Jalan Sungai Pahalau in Banjarmasin. From HM, police confiscated 1,581.72 grams of meth.

The following day, April 25, 2025, another suspect, MF, was captured on Jalan Trikora in Banjarbaru. This bust resulted in the seizure of 3,918.20 grams of meth, 10,049 ecstasy pills, and 24.14 grams of powdered ecstasy — the largest haul of the entire operation.

On the same day, police also arrested a fourth suspect, MS, on Jalan Martapura Lama, Banjar Regency, with 209.28 grams of meth in his possession.

A Major Network Spanning Across Islands

According to the South Kalimantan Narcotics Investigation Director, Kombes Kelana Jaya, these four suspects were not acting independently. They were part of a large, organized network controlled by an operator closely linked to Fredy Pratama.

"This network operates not only in South Kalimantan but also reaches West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and even across to Sulawesi — including Makassar, Palu, and Kendari," Kombes Kelana explained during a press conference on April 29, 2025.

This means the network’s reach was massive, covering multiple provinces and islands, operating with a highly structured system. Fredy Pratama’s networks are notorious for being sophisticated, using multiple layers of operators to evade detection.

Heavy Legal Consequences and Money Laundering Investigation

The four suspects are now officially detained and charged under Article 114, Paragraph 2 of the Indonesian Narcotics Law (Law No. 35 of 2009). This article deals with the distribution of large quantities of Category I narcotics, carrying a minimum sentence of 6 years and up to 20 years in prison, along with fines up to Rp13 billion (approximately $830,000).

But that's not all. The police are also digging deeper into the financial flows and assets related to the network. Their goal? To apply money laundering charges under Indonesia’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws.

"We’re not just aiming to arrest these dealers — we want to hit them where it hurts most: their money. That’s why we’re tracking every asset and financial transaction connected to this network," Kombes Kelana stated firmly.

This approach is seen as a modern strategy in the war against drugs: not only cutting off the drug supply but also dismantling the financial empire that fuels it.

The Social Impact of Drug Trafficking

The impact of drug distribution — especially meth and ecstasy — on society is devastating. These substances destroy lives, particularly among young people, leading to mental health issues, addiction, broken families, and increased crime rates.

Given the scale of this network, the potential harm to countless communities could have been catastrophic if these drugs had hit the streets. Thankfully, this major bust prevented a huge amount of dangerous substances from reaching the public.

Community Involvement is Key

The success of busts like this one isn’t just thanks to police efforts. It also relies heavily on information from the community.

Kombes Kelana urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

"If you see anything unusual — suspicious packages, unfamiliar visitors hanging around, or odd activity at a neighbor's house — don’t hesitate to report it to the police. We need everyone's help to fight drug trafficking," he emphasized.

What’s Next?

The South Kalimantan police have made it clear that this investigation is far from over. Authorities are continuing to explore the roles of each suspect and are actively hunting down the network's main operator — the key link to Fredy Pratama.

In the coming weeks, we could see more arrests, including those who handle the financial or logistical sides of the operation. The scope of this case is so large that it might expand to other regions as well.

The bust of this Fredy Pratama-linked drug network by the South Kalimantan police is a massive win in the fight against drug trafficking. With nearly 9 kilograms of meth and tens of thousands of ecstasy pills seized, this operation stopped a major distribution chain that could have devastated many communities.

For all of us, it’s a reminder of the critical role we can play in supporting law enforcement — even small tips can make a huge difference.
