Marcus Rashford's season could be over after the Manchester United loanee suffered a serious hamstring injury while playing for Aston Villa.
Rashford was a surprise omission from the Villa squad that lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Manager Unai Emery confirmed afterward that Rashford would be out for "some weeks." However, The Athletic reports that the injury is worse than initially expected. Although surgery is not required, Rashford is unlikely to feature again this season.
Even if he recovers in time, Rashford would be ineligible for Villa’s final game against Manchester United, his parent club, under loan agreement rules.
Rashford's current focus is now on recovering in time for the next England camp in June. His impressive performances with Villa — recording four goals and six assists in 17 games — had already secured him a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad back in March.
As for his long-term future, things remain uncertain. Aston Villa reportedly remains undecided about triggering a £40 million purchase option in his loan deal. Meanwhile, Manchester United is said to be hopeful of selling Rashford for a higher fee, potentially closer to £60 million.
Long-time admirers Paris Saint-Germain have recently reignited their interest in Rashford. Spanish reports also suggest that the 27-year-old winger dreams of a move to Barcelona, after the La Liga giants were priced out of a transfer in January.
It’s certainly a critical period for Rashford’s career — but first, the priority is a full recovery.
