Garut OB-GYN Accused of Sexual Misconduct Officially Named as Suspect. |
A troubling case of alleged sexual abuse involving an obstetrician in Garut, West Java, has gained public attention. The suspect, identified by the initials MSF (33), who previously worked at Klinik Karya Harsa, has been officially named as a suspect by the West Java Regional Police.
According to Police Public Relations Chief, Kombes Pol. Hendra Rochmawan, the victim, a 24-year-old woman referred to as AED, initially contacted MSF for a medical consultation related to vaginal discharge. The consultation took place on March 22, 2025, at the clinic. After the checkup, MSF suggested AED receive a gonorrhea vaccine injection, which would cost around IDR 6 million (approximately USD 375).
What raised concern was that the injection wasn’t performed in the clinic—it was administered at the victim’s family home, rather than in a certified medical facility. The injection took place on the night of March 24, 2025.
Following the procedure, MSF asked AED to drive him home, claiming he had used a ride-hailing service to reach the house. Once they arrived at MSF’s rented room in Tarogong Kidul, the victim intended to pay for the injection in cash. However, MSF insisted that the transaction take place inside his room, citing embarrassment if others saw them.
Once inside, the situation escalated. MSF reportedly grabbed the victim's hand and locked the door, then began kissing and touching her inappropriately, despite her clear verbal rejections. Fortunately, the victim managed to fight back and escape from the scene.
AED immediately reported the incident to the authorities. The police acted swiftly and have interviewed 10 witnesses, including the victim’s family members, medical professionals, and a licensed psychologist. Law enforcement also collected several pieces of evidence, such as a flash drive containing a viral video, a memory card, and the clothing the victim wore during the incident.
The suspect is now being charged under Article 6 letters b and/or c in conjunction with Article 15 paragraph (1) letter b of Indonesian Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes. If found guilty, MSF faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 years and/or a fine of up to IDR 300 million (around USD 18,750).
Raising Awareness About Medical Misconduct and Sexual Abuse
This case highlights a critical issue in society: sexual abuse can happen anywhere, even in spaces where people should feel safe—such as medical environments. It also reminds us to be cautious when undergoing medical procedures outside licensed clinics or hospitals.
Patients, especially women, should never feel forced to accept private, off-site medical procedures. It’s crucial to question, report, and avoid any unprofessional or suspicious behavior from healthcare providers.
In this case, the victim is now receiving psychological support to help her recover emotionally and mentally from the traumatic experience. Providing proper counseling and mental health assistance is essential for survivors to regain control over their lives.
Stricter Supervision Needed for Off-Clinic Medical Practices
One of the major red flags in this incident was the fact that the medical procedure was performed outside a registered medical facility. While some treatments may occasionally happen at home, they should always involve clear consent, proper documentation, and ideally, oversight by medical boards or licensing authorities.
Regulatory agencies are now being urged to tighten supervision and enforce clearer rules on where and how medical procedures can be conducted. The goal is to prevent abuse of authority and protect patients’ rights, especially in vulnerable situations.
Protecting Survivors and Encouraging Reporting
Everyone has the right to feel safe when seeking medical treatment. If you or someone you know experiences sexual harassment or abuse, speak up and seek help. You are not alone, and there are organizations ready to support you—whether through legal aid, counseling, or public reporting.
By standing together, spreading awareness, and supporting survivors, we can help create a society that is safer, more respectful, and truly protective of everyone's dignity.
