The Narcotics Investigation Directorate of the East Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kaltim) has successfully uncovered a major drug trafficking operation in the cities of Samarinda and Balikpapan. A total of eight individuals have been arrested and named as suspects.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of the Narcotics Crime Division at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), confirmed the arrests. He emphasized the police's commitment to fighting drug trafficking from the source to distribution.

"Bareskrim Polri and regional police units will continue to synergize and accelerate efforts to mitigate drug trafficking," Brigjen Eko stated on Saturday (April 26, 2025).

During the operation, authorities seized 35.9 kilograms of methamphetamine (sabu) and 500 grams of marijuana. The confiscated drugs originated from various regions across Indonesia, highlighting the wide reach of the network.

Here’s a breakdown of the drug sources:

  • 33 kilograms of methamphetamine seized in Samarinda came from Malinau, North Kalimantan.

  • 2 kilograms of methamphetamine seized in Balikpapan came from Padang, West Sumatra.

  • 900 grams of methamphetamine seized in Balikpapan came from Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

  • 500 grams of marijuana seized in Samarinda came from Medan, North Sumatra.

According to official statements, most of the drugs were intended for distribution in East Java and South Sulawesi. Shockingly, the suspects are part of an international drug syndicate.

The Narcotics Investigation Directorate of Polda Kaltim and Bareskrim Polri are currently expanding the investigation to dismantle the network completely.

"Most of the methamphetamine was intended for distribution in East Java and South Sulawesi, and the group is part of an international drug syndicate," Brigjen Eko explained.

The Indonesian National Police reaffirmed their strong commitment to eradicating drug trafficking by thoroughly investigating and dismantling these dangerous networks.

This breakthrough is expected to deliver a significant blow to drug syndicates and strengthen anti-drug efforts nationwide.
