| Drug Courier Arrested in Pekanbaru, Police Seize 12.8 KG of Meth. |
Pekanbaru – A major drug bust has taken place in Pekanbaru! The Narcotics Crime Directorate of Riau Regional Police successfully arrested a drug courier identified as H, who was caught carrying 12.8 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The arrest occurred while H was traveling on a bus along S.M. Amin Street, Pekanbaru City, on Monday (April 21, 2025). During the search, officers found a black backpack containing four large batik-patterned packages. Inside each package were 13 clear plastic bags filled with meth.
"H acted as a courier. His method was hiding the meth inside a backpack," said the Director of the Narcotics Unit at Riau Police, Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira, on Monday (April 28, 2025).
Further investigation revealed that H had just returned from Malaysia and was ordered by an individual known as K, who is still on the run, to deliver the drugs to Surabaya. In return, H was promised a payment of IDR 150 million (around USD 9,400).
"We are currently expanding our investigation to pursue other individuals involved in this network, including the intended recipient in Surabaya," Commissioner Putu added.
Due to his actions, H faces charges under Article 114 paragraph (2) and subsidiary Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. He could face the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a minimum of six years and up to 20 years in prison.
The Riau Police urge the public to stay vigilant and actively participate in the fight against drug trafficking. "Let’s keep Riau safe and free from drugs!" Commissioner Putu concluded.
