A house owned by Selpanus Malidin (60) was completely destroyed, leaving only debris behind after flames consumed the second floor of the building.

The witness noticed smoke and flames coming from the upper floor and immediately shouted for help from nearby residents.
“People rushed to the scene after hearing the screams. They saw thick smoke and growing flames coming from the top of the house,” explained AKP Burhan.
“Some witnesses even reported hearing a loud popping sound before contacting the local fire department.”
At the time of the incident, the homeowner had just returned from tapping rubber and was on the ground floor.
He quickly evacuated after hearing the alarm and tried to save some valuable items. Unfortunately, the fire spread too quickly, making it difficult to rescue anything.
“The house’s structure, mostly made of wood, allowed the fire to spread rapidly and completely burn down the second floor,” Burhan added.
Members of the Sekadau Police and Samapta Unit also assisted in the evacuation process and helped regulate traffic around the area to prevent congestion.
By around 10:30 AM, the fire was finally put out by the firefighting team from the Sekadau Fire Department.
While there were no injuries or casualties, the financial loss is estimated to be in the tens of millions of rupiah.
AKP Burhan stated that the initial suspicion points to an electrical short circuit on the upper floor as the cause of the fire.
He also reminded the public to always pay attention to their home electrical systems.
“We urge everyone to be more cautious and to regularly check the condition of their electrical installations. Avoid overloading power outlets and make sure your cables are not damaged,” he advised.
